Marianna McDonald: Kentucky State Parks

Lexington pastel artist Marianna McDonald will present a preview exhibit of her Kentucky State Parks work at a new Gallery at the Brown art show from Saturday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Jan. 27. To celebrate the opening, a reception will be 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7.
McDonald’s works, entitled “Pastels: Kentucky State Park Series… and more,” are inspired by her visits to nine parks and depict the varied landscape and atmospheric beauty of these state treasures. They were created in part through… Show more a grant from the Kentucky
Department of Parks. Other pieces, including scenes from Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, will also be shown.
“The parks that I visited represent an amazing diversity of landscapes,” said McDonald. “Water is the one thread that winds through all of these parks. I’ve
thoroughly enjoyed recording these moments in time through my pastel drawings as I hiked the trails, kayaked the lakes, or sat beside gurgling creeks.”
The Louisville native and Murray State grad is a full-time artist, participating in 10 regional art fairs per year and teaching pastels to adults. She is represented by four regional art galleries and has works in collections at the University of Kentucky Hospital, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital and the KFC Corporation.
Gallery at The Brown features local artists quarterly to bring awareness to Kentucky’s visual arts scene. Located on the first floor of the hotel, Gallery at the
Brown Hotel is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free. A high-resolution image of McDonald’s ‘Greenbo Lake Morning’ is available upon request.
