In 1988, owner Mario Melendez, opened the King King with the intentions of showcasing roots-oriented music (Jazz, Afro-Cuban, Blues, Soul, Latin and Ska). He wanted to create a dwelling for QUALITY LIVE ENTERTAINMENT, and successfully, he converted a former Chinese restaurant (reborn, but not redecorated) into one of Hollywood's best kept secrets.

Today, the King King books everything from indie rock to cuban timba/salsa; from electro to house, and hosts a wide range of events, including: multi-media theatre, French- cabaret, record-release parties, film screenings, wine tasting parties etc...

A haven for creativity, the King King draws a celebrity crowd without being a trendy Hollywood spot thats hot one minute and not the next. King King regulars have included Iggy Pop, Billy Idol, Eric Clapton, the Gypsy Kings, Tom Waits, Keanu Reeves, Crispin Glover, Mick Jagger, Bruce Willis, Marc Ford, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, to name a few.
