An Evening with Arthur Schmidt
Join us Wednesday, November 19, 2014 for a VERY special lacpug Meet.
We are excited to welcome legendary film editor Arthur Schmidt to lacpug for the entire evening.
Arthur Schmidt is a film editor with about 27 film credits between 1977 and 2005. Schmidt has had an long collaboration with director Robert Zemeckis… Show more that extended from Back to the Future (1985) to Cast Away (2000).
Schmidt received the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and Forrest Gump (1994). In addition to these Oscars, Schmidt has won several "Eddies" from the American Cinema Editors for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (with Craig Wood and Stephen E. Rivkin, 2003), Forrest Gump, and for a television special The Jericho Mile (1979). He has been nominated for major editing awards (including the BAFTA Award for Best Editing) for Coal Miner's Daughter (1980), Back to the Future (with Harry Keramidas, 1985), Last of the Mohicans (with Dov Hoenig, 1992), and Cast Away (2000).
Schmidt received the 2009 American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award, which was presented to Schmidt by Robert Zemeckis.

7:30 - 8:30 - A conversation with Arthur Schmidt - Arthur Schmidt We will talk to Arthur about his career in editing from the very beginnings until now. We intend to show as many clips from his movies as time allows.
About Arthur Schmidt Arthur Schmidt is a film editor from Los Angeles, California. He is best known for his many collaborations with director Robert Zemeckis ; their first joint project was the 1982 film Back to the Future and the last was Cast Away released in 2000. Schmidt learned the principles of film editing by watching his father, who was also a professional film editor, work. After he graduated from college with a bachelor's degree in English, Schmidt established himself as a gifted editor. In 1988 he won an Academy Award for editing Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He won his second Oscar in 1994 for his work on Forrest Gump . The American Cinema Editors have recognized Schmidt three times; these "Eddie awards," as they are nicknamed, were bestowed in recognition of the editor's work on Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Forrest Gump and The Jericho Mile, a prime time TV special. Schmidt also has many other credits in his impressive filmography, including Coal Miner's Daughter, "Cast Away" and Last of the Mohicans .
