Ever wonder how Steven Spielberg or Peter Jackson started making movies? As kids—inspired by Hollywood films of their time—they began by making short 8mm films with their friends, after school and on the weekends. As they grew up, their passions for storytelling turned into hobbies, and their hobbies turned into $200 million Studio films!
Camp Red offers a hybrid of education and fun; campers will learn the magic of movie-making while participating in the every-day activities of an exciting, care-free… Show more summer camp, all while shooting on the same 5k Red Epic cameras that Peter Jackson used on The Hobbit —and even in 3D!

The structure of this year's program is different from those in the past; please be aware that we no longer offer a one week session of camp. This change will be reflected in the amount of time the campers spend creating together. For the full two weeks, the campers will rotate through activities on screenwriting, acting, directing, shooting and editing. Giving the students two weeks will not only allow furthered learning, but the students will also be able to complete full projects and cycle through the entire production process.
Registration will be on a first come first serve basis.
There will be one session of day camp ("Session 1") and one session of sleep away camp ("Session 2"). As in years past, the camper must attend Session 1 in order to participate in Session 2.
Session 1: July 22nd-August 2nd
Monday-Friday 9:30am-4:30pm
Limited to 45 campers
Lunch provided
Cost $1200
Session 2: August 6th-10th Camp Red Retreat
Adventure awaits!
Camp Red offers a third week sleep-away camp at Camp Jca Shalom in Malibu. We will continue the movie-making experience on-location in the forests near the Californian coast, where the campers will shoot an extended short film as a crew.
While breaking from technology to enjoy American outdoor traditions, campers will share bunk-beds in cabins, eat together in at the dining hall, and keep busy during the day with group building, horseback riding, high ropes, swimming, outdoor skills development, songs, skits, and campfires.
Tuesday drop-off 10:00am – Saturday pick-up 12:00pm
Limited to 25 campers
All meals provided
Cost $800
**** All campers will sign up to attend both weeks of day camp. They will spend the two weeks producing their films for a final Film Festival on Friday August 2 nd, 2013. We invite all parents, guardians and siblings to attend the festival.****
