San Pedro's annual community Independence Day Celebration will be held at its traditional location of Angels Gate Park, home of the Korean Friendship Bell. Highlights include presentations by local and Korean community leaders with keynote speaker Janice Hahn and an antique vehilce display by the Ft. MacArthur Military Museum. San Pedro's "Citizen of the Millennium," John Olguin will lead the audience in reciting the names of the 13 original states, accompanied by the bell being rung for each state. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic lunches to the day-long celebration. Activities will conclude at 8 p.m. with a free outdoor concert by the Goden State Pops Orchestra and fireworks on Cabrillo Beach.
