Avandi's Family Restaurant

The restaurant has a rich and unique history, which has helped in creating our welcoming dining experience. The owner and founder of Avandi's, Theodore Karametros, wants to extend his personal greetings to you and your family. When growing up with his three bothers in the Old Country outside of Macedonia, Greece. Theodore hoped of one day coming to America and fulfilling his dreams. He learned the value of hard work early on, supporting himself at the young age of 12. When Mr. Karametros pulled into an American harbor at 18, he was determined to make his dreams a reality. He worked night and day at the Carpenter Hotel in downtown Manchester, saving every penny towards one day owning a restaurant of his own. He overcame many struggles learning English, by even jotting down words on his arms, so they could later be written down. Working as a prep chef at the Chateau restaurant on Hanover Street, Theodore dreamed of creating his own restaurant where he could serve delicious and healthy dishes at honest prices. Mr. Karametros has opened a variety of restaurants since his first in 1978. He realized early on that creating a welcoming and fun family atmosphere was the key to a restaurant's success. When he returned to Greece in 1982 to visit family, he met his wife Yiota Karametros. Knowing that he would not be returning for some time, he proposed to her with the words, "All my life I have flipped a coin, not knowing what the outcome would be. Are you willing to flip a coin?" In a matter of three weeks the couple was married and returned to the United States together. On their honeymoon Theodore promised that one day he would open Yiota a restaurant that would be a symbol of their journey together and their successes in the United States.
