For those who appreciate their live music in a more intimate environment, indigO2 – with its 2350 capacity – is for you...with diverse acts such as Jools Holland, Timbaland, Joss Stone and Natalie Cole who thrive in such close quarters with their audience. Like the arena next door, cutting edge technology has not just been used on the stage to ensure top quality lighting and sound, but within the venue itself. Part-standing and part-amphitheatre style seating (with table service) the venue is truly sumptuous with superb air conditioning and plush lounge areas to chill in. An extremely useful “fast pour” system has also been installed in each bar so you're only ever 7 seconds away from the perfectly chilled pint between songs.
From age 5 through his first year of high school he was enrolled in a Christian boarding school, an experience he says turned him against organized religion. Takes his stage name from Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson....
A member of the YoungBloodZ, Atlanta rapper Sean Paul (aka Sean P) appeared on series of hit R&B and hip-hop singles before introducing his solo career properly with the single "Everywhere We Go." Paul formed the YoungBloodZ with his good friend J-Bo while the two were attending Miller Grove Middle School in Decatur....
For most of the second half of the '60s, Sergio Mendes was the top-selling Brazilian artist in the United States, charting huge hit singles and LPs that regularly made the Top Five. His records with his group, Brasil '66, regularly straddled the domestic pop and international markets in America, getting played heavily on AM radio stations, both rock and easy listening, and he gave his label, A&M, something to offer light jazz listeners beyond the work of the company's co-founder, Herb Alpert....
Some call him a genius, others claim he's certifiably insane, a madman. Truth is, he's both, but more importantly, Lee Perry is a towering figure in reggae -- a producer, mixer, and songwriter who, along with King Tubby, helped shape the sound of dub and made reggae music such a powerful part of the pop music world....
A pioneering force behind the rise of Caribbean music, guitar virtuoso Ernest Ranglin was born in Manchester, Jamaica, in 1932. He began playing ukulele as a boy, soon graduating to guitar; while in his teens he began performing live both locally and in the Bahamas, often in tandem with the young Monty Alexander....
His poems have given voice to a nation and helped forge an entirely new genre of music, dub/rhythm poetry. Revolutionary, fiery, scathing, and stinging, Mutabaruka's words are as potent on paper as on CD, and so the literary community needed to create a new term just for his works -- meta-dub....
On an island renowned for its superb vocalists and composers, John Holt still stands head and shoulders above the rest as one of Jamaica's sweetest singers and enduring songwriters. He has voiced and penned so many of the country's classics that in a way, Holt has defined the island's sound....
Freddie McGregor is one of reggae's most durable and soulful singers, with an incredibly steady career that started all the way back in the '60s, when he was just seven years old. Since then, he's spanned nearly every stylistic shift in Jamaican music, from ska and rocksteady to Rastafarian roots reggae to lovers rock (his particular specialty) to dabblings in dancehall, ragga, and dub....
The Maytals were key figures in reggae music. Comprised of leader Frederick "Toots" Hibbert, Nathaniel "Jerry" Matthias, and Raleigh Gordon, all natives of Kingston, the Maytals are said to have been the first group to use the word "reggae" in a song title with their Leslie Kong-produced "Do the Reggay....
One of Jamaica's most distinguished and beloved vocalists, Horace Andy is blessed with one of the most distinctive voices on the island and his emotive delivery just adds further weight to his reputation....
