The Burning of the Tea

Saturday, Dec 14, 2013 3:00p
Munroe Tavern Lexington, MA

Most people have heard of the Boston Tea Party - but did you know that three days before that famous event, the patriotic citizens of Lexington staged their own tea tax protest? It was resolved that anyone who purchased or consumed tea would "be looked upon as an enemy to this town AND this country"! The townspeople gathered all their tea and cast it into a common bonfire in a symbolic gesture. Two years later, Lexington would witness the first deaths of the American Revolution.
