FRAN COSMO "LIVE" at Vinoy Park Ampitheatre.. Relive the magic!

A slow trickle of people flowed into Vinoy Park’s annual Ribfest, on a cloudless day. Those who were there early enough, could see Fran Cosmo himself doing sound check on the large stage, which was flanked by towering speakers and an enormous screen nearby. As the sun began to set, and a chill hit from a northern wind, 13,000 rock fans descended onto the green. From the first notes of a biting guitar riff by Anthony Cosmo, thundering bass from Bill Carman and pounding beat of drummer Pat Orlowski, singer Fran Cosmo launched into Alien, off the 2006 release ALIEN. The band had a camera on them for the big screen and plenty of good lighting. Anthony, a left-handed guitarist, did a solo that ranks him among the greats, leading into a good seven minute jam of "Can’t Run Away," another COSMO tune. Then came an epic Boston song "Walk On." There is no doubt to why Fran Cosmo was singer for SuperGroup Boston. With his amazing vocal range, and sustaining the high notes needed in many of Bostons numbers, you get lost in the power of the songs through his singing. To lots of applause and screaming came the introduction of special guest Barry Goudreau, former guitarist of Boston, who last played live with Fran over twenty years ago. The crowd was psyched up hearing the familiar guitar riff of "Rock & Roll Band" and happily sang along. This led to the powerful song "Cool The Engines" and the rousing "Something About You." An extended version of "Foreplay/Long Time" was brought in with awesome keyboard work by special guest Gary Johnson who also joined in on singing and rhythm guitar. You’ve just never heard a more satisfied group of thousands, once again turning the song into one gigantic sing-a-long. A two minute drum solo, that put you in the mode of the arena rock show, preceded "Peace of Mind" with Barry making his Gibson sing and Fran’s singing doing Brad justice. All the guys cut loose on "Smokin," interacting with each other and the crowd....too bad this was the last song...the love for these musicians is “More Than a Feeling” and you could hear shouts wanting more. Next time, St. Pete.... next time.
