A Very Vegas Event - And that isn't Good

If Vegas means to you Star Power, the Strip, Big Events this is not Vegas. If you are a local and Vegas means cheesy, misleading hype, trash culture and yet more proof that this is the world's smallest big city welcome to VIFF.

It is now 2 days in to this event. So far they have presented two of the Worst full length films this viewer of many festivals has ever seen. One had the ugliest close ups driven photography ever seen. Not even amateurish. Offensive. This was followed the next day by Coolio and some unknowns apparently swearing without a script for 40 minutes when I walked out. There are always clunkers at film festivals but with their top picks plain offensive, not worthy of a bad tv show, one film a night (festival?) at one theater, no stars of any stature, no panels, etc. this is about as rinky dink as it gets.

But...also Thursday night were the 48 hour film awards and about 10 films made in that time period. These shorts were delightful. Little movies like Wizard Cops and Banana Day were impressively clever.

How could the same event have such awful trash and such a bright exception? Vegas ...a place where we find treasure occasionally within the trash. Entertainment capital? No. Home of the dumpster divers..bingo..never know what you might find.
