Target Audience: Administrators and responders of Law Enforcement, Fire Departments, Search & Rescue, Hospital/Ambulance, Mental Health Professionals, members of the clergy & Pastoral Association, Highway Patrol, Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Game & Fish, National Park Service, Mine Safety and any public service entity that may respond to an incident.
It is critical to the successful application of the process that Mental Health Professionals and members of the Clergy and Pastoral Association become involved and trained in Critical Incident Stress Mitigation.
This course will provide information on the history of Critical Incident Stress mitigation, education and support.
Participants will develop an understanding about who becomes a victim of critical incident stress, why the personality characteristics of the emergency responder tend to either absorb or repel incident stress and what can be done to protect, preserve and promote long term psychological health in the emergency response community.
The course will introduce & define the techniques used to mitigate incident stress including pre-incident education, defusing, on scene support, defusing, demobilization, formal Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and the follow up process.
The final module of this course will be instruction on the formal Critical Incident Stress Debriefing process.
Participants will receive training to become a part of a Critical Incident Stress Response Team. The formal debrief process requires the use of both mental health professionals and peer support counselors.
Completion of this training will allow the participant to become listed as a resource to be dispatched as a part of a response team to support emergency responders following a critical incident in the state of Wyoming.
