Kay Winters-"Finding Our Stories"

Kay Winters was a classroom teacher, college instructor and is now a children's book author. She remembers the day she learned to read. She was four. On that Sunday afternoon, she saw the words, and knew what they said. She remembers her delight at discovering the library. All those books! She still feels like that about books and the library.
While growing up, she wanted to be a teacher and a writer. Currently both careers are combined.
What she loved best about teaching was reading wonderful books… Show more to students, znd that was true whether the students were first graders or graduate students--whether they were in this country or in India, Nepal, Egypt, Jordan, Italy, Israel or Greece, where she served as a consultant for the American International Schools.
Kay loved riding a horse around the pyramids, taking a small plane over the Himalayas, digging for artifacts in Amman. Her husband and she have gone on an elephant trek in Thailand, explored the Freedom Trail and the Oregon Trail in America, and sailed on a tall ship around the islands of French Polynesia. Some of these settings have appeared in her books.
The Teeny Tiny Ghost was her first book to be published. Now she has 18 books published for children ages 4-13. The books have been translated into Arabic, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese and Korean. A number have won awards. Some of her titles include; Abe Lincoln: The Boy Who Loved Books, My Teacher for President, Colonial Voices: Hear Them Speak, This School Year Will be THE BEST, Did You See What I Saw?
