Cherry Blossom Festival

Spring arrives in Japan on drifts of pink and white cherry blossoms. Descanso Gardens will celebrate this season of promise and a longtime friendship with the Japanese community at the second annual Cherry Blossom Festival. Learn more about these beautiful trees on guided walks, and get a taste of Japanese culture. Cherry Blossom Walks--Saturday-Sunday | 11:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m. | Center Circle. Meet the nine types of flowering cherries in the Descanso landscape, as well as their equally lovely blooming… Show more relatives, all members of the genus Prunus. Brian Sullivan, horticulture and garden operations director, leads the Saturday walks. Descanso Curator Wen Wang takes over on Sunday. Free with admission. Japanese Story Time--Saturday | 11:30 a.m. | Japanese Garden. Immerse yourself in the fantastic world of traditional Japanese tales. These stories are populated by magical teakettles, long-nosed goblins, and a host of other imaginative characters. Free with admission. Easy Origami for Children--Sunday | 11 a.m.-1 p.m. | Japanese Garden. Learn to create simple and beautiful paper treasures while practicing an ancient Japanese handicraft. Free with admission. Camellia Lounge "Appetizer"--Saturday-Sunday | 11 a.m.-3 p.m. | Japanese Garden. Summer's popular Camellia Lounge makes a special appearance at the festival. Sample savory dishes from the Land of the Rising Sun. And get a preview of the signature cocktails that will toast the summer months.
