Chateau St. Jean was founded around a concept for centuries in Europe but new to California - terroir (pronounced "ter wahr"). This French word has no direct translation in English. Netherless, it speaks volumes about how each vineyard's unique combination of climate, soil and growing conditions determine a grape's flavor and intensity.
In addition to Sonoma County and Sonoma County Reserve, Chateau St. Jean also produces Single Vineyard Designated wines from a handful of vineyards whose grapes have consistently exhibited exceptional varietal character. Chardonnays from the acclaimed Robert Young, Belle Terre and Durell Vineyards, and Fumé Blanc from La Petite Etoile.
