Advance sales - approaching sell out grieg: violin sonata no. 3 tchaikovsky: sérénade mélancolique, souvenir d’un lieu cher, valse-scherzo already an established partnership as soloist and conductor (which you can hear in prom 25 at the royal albert hall), julia fischer and yakov kreizberg here display their chamber-music rapport, with fischer making her proms debut.their recent recording together of tchaikovsky’s violin concerto was a huge critical success and these three pieces for violin and piano come from the same period of his life – reflecting in their drama and melancholy a time of personal crisis intensified by the composer’s disastrous marriage. Grieg’s three violin sonatas were particularly dear to his heart and mirrored his development as a composer. He said the first was ‘naive, rich in ideas’, the second was ‘national’, and the third, which opens this concert, presented ‘a wider horizon’.
