Parenting children and youth with invisible disabilities is an extremely stressful, isolating, and emotional job. It’s often said that parenthood should be treated like an airline emergency -- put the oxygen mask on yourself first and then help the person sitting next to you. But when you are parenting a child or youth with invisible disabilities, it is tough to put on the brakes when the strongest instinct, the maternal instinct, is to take care of your children first.Â
For one weekend, stressed… Show more out, wrung out moms and c aregivers to children and youth with very real, but invisible, brain-based disabilities will have a chance to reconnect to who they used to be. To take a break from their lives that have been turned upside-down by trauma, drama, and/or the often lonely task of parenting a special needs child or youth.  To get away for a few days and rest, relax, decompress, unwind, play...and most importantly, to connect with lots of other real live and still mostly breathing moms who actually "get it" because we're all living the same crazy life. Â
Your wonderful weekend begins on Friday evening -  getting to know each other over delicious food in a relaxing atmosphere of acceptance and friendship. Saturday morning will include a communal breakfast and workshop on “Finding Balance in a Hectic Lifeâ€*. After a light lunch, participants will have the options of going for a nature walk through the wetlands on the property, relaxing, taking an uninterrupted nap or taking part in a workshop on journaling. Saturday evening will be spent preparing and eating dinner as a group, connecting and relaxing around the firepit (smores included!) or with movies and snacks. Sunday morning will be brunch and a short workshop on how to use what you've learned when you get back to your daily challenges. Participants will also discuss how to stay connected with each other for support and share feedback on the retreat.Â
