Few bands did more than Nickelback to establish the force of slick, commercially minded post-grunge in the 2000s. Led by vocalist Chad Kroeger, the band initially emerged in the late '90s as Canada's answer to Creed, prizing a blend of gruff vocals and distorted (yet radio-friendly) guitars. After a handful of singles failed to gain much traction in Canada, "How You Remind Me" caught hold in 2001, eventually topping the charts in several countries while gathering four Grammy nominations and four… Show more

Led by guitarist/vocalist Gavin Rossdale, Bush became the first post-Nirvana British band to hit it big in America. Of course, they became a hit by playing by the grunge rules -- they had loud guitars, guttural vocals, stop-start rhythms, and extreme dynamics....

You know how there are a lot of godawful rock bands on the radio today that all sort of blend together? The kind that have little or no value to the progression of rock music? The other day I was subjected to a particularly mindless track that I recognized from hearing time and time again in various places. Out of curiosity, I waited until the end to hear who was responsible for this musical atrocity. Turns out the band's name was "Nickelback."

Worth seeing in concert if you have a chance to go

Perhaps there is more to their name than people give them credit for. It's like a cheap knockoff of a silverback gorilla, with all the musical talent, but less creativity. If they were Sally Struther kids, I'd want my nickel back too.
