Inertia Justice has been… Show more performing spoken word since 1993 in Houston’s own Mahogany Café. Over the course of 16 years she has performed in hundreds of venues and has toured across United States and Jamaica: Montego Bay, to Kingston, New York: Brooklyn, Manhattan, Harlem, and the Bronx, California: Compton, La, Inglewood, Hollywood, and Berkley, Texas: Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Ft Worth, Georgia: Atlanta, Savanna, and Augusta, New Mexico: Albuquerque, Michigan: Detroit, Ohio: Columbus, Maryland: Baltimore, Washington: Spokane
As the headliner for The Pop-Poetry Spot, Inertia was featured in several “Poetry in Motion” campaigns. These campaigns were the basis for the organization’s name; poets would “pop-up” through-out the city performing their work.
An innovator, Inertia was the first poet in Houston to release a poetry CD. She has released 3 poetic CDs: Momentum, A Poet and Destiny. And she has self-published 2 Books of poetry: Predigest Sensationalism- Mental Baby Food and At Last a Woman’s Perspective. Her work has been featured in several performances by the Kummba House Dance teams. She was featured in the Kings & Queens of Poetry .
Inertia is a three time nationally acknowledged (2006 and 2007 Team slam and 2010 Women’s individuals) slam poet and has shared the stage with well-known artist to include: Floe try, N’Dambi, Kindred, Amiri Baraka, Mutabaruka and many others. Her CD is in rotation on several Jazz and Hip-hop stations, a huge feat for a spoken word artist. As a hometown favorite, Inertia has been interviewed by newspapers and magazines: The Houston Chronicle, The Houston Sun, Style Magazine, and Amag.
Reading in the world acclaimed Vagina Monologues in 2009 has Inertia looking forward to pursuing an acting career. She is currently working on a novel and a new CD to both will be released summer of 2010 as well as hosting Every 4 th Friday at Club Martels, The Black House Show with more tour dates lined up.
