Learn about the use of solar and other design elements for high performance, sustainable buildings. - Stephen Meder, Dr Arch, holds a joint University of Hawai'i appointment as a School of Architecture faculty member and also as Director of the Sea Grant College Program's Center for Smart Building and Community Design. Meder's research on sustainable development, particularly solar design and high performance buildings has been widely recognized. He is currently involved in developing new methods to map solar radiation and to assess solar energy potential on existing buildings through GIS and aerial image recognition.
