Wisconsin Brass Quintet

The Wisconsin Brass Quintet is a faculty ensemble-in-residence at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music and feature songs from all periods and styles.

It is the mission of the Wisconsin Brass Quintet to perform and record, at the highest level of artistry, a large and diverse range of repertoire originally composed and adapted for brass quintet. Members of the quintet John Aley and Jessica Jensen, trumpet; Daniel Grabois, horn; Mark Hetzler, trombone; and John Stevens, tuba, place… Show more particular emphasis on American music and new music from around the world. Quintet members John Stevens, Daniel Grabois, and former member Douglas Hill have also composed many works for the group.

Barry Kilpatrick writes for the American Record Guide, "The Wisconsin Brass Quintet is a remarkable ensemble that plays with more reckless abandon, warmth, stylistic variety, and interpretive interest than almost any quintet in memory."

Formed in 1972, and the talented musicians left their mark throughout the Midwest and made appearances at New York’s Carnegie Recital Hall and Merkin Concert Hall. The Quintet's educational programs have been presented in such prestigious settings as The Juilliard School and the Yale School of Music. As educators, they seek to influence future generations of chamber performers through clinics, lessons, and workshops for aspiring musicians for all ages.
