The Palace Theatre
The Palace Theatre is home to the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra and a regional venue for River City Brass Band. Productions are mounted on a regular basis by local arts groups including Laurel Ballet, Stage Right, Greensburg Civic Theatre, Westmoreland Choral Society, and Greensburg Central Catholic High School. Concert promoters bring popular entertainers to the Palace such as Joan Baez, Buddy Guy, Kevin James, Connie Francis, The Oak Ridge Boys, Penn & Teller, Frankie Avalon, and Keb Mo. Westmoreland Cultural Trust (formerly The Westmoreland Trust), owner and developer of The Palace since 1990, sponsors national touring musicals and celebrity headliners like Tom Jones, Kenny Rogers, Wayne Newton, Lily Tomlin, Bob Newhart, Lou Rawls, Judy Collins, Neil Sedaka, Ben Vereen, Bill Cosby, Bernadette Peters, Harry Belafonte, Irish Tenor Ronan Tynan, George Carlin, and Paul Anka.
The Palace Theatre The work of original architect Leon H. Lempert & Son of Rochester, NY, much of the original Manos Theatre remains intact, including the Lobby's candlelight chandelier and golden Grecian marble, black and white floor tiles, and the unique ticket booth at the theatre's entrance. Phase II renovations begun in 1996 included air-conditioning, new stage lighting, a state-of-the-art sound system, and more comfortable and spacious seating installed throughout the entire upper level of the theatre. The original opera boxes were replicated and will be completed by painting the hand-cast, decorative moldings and hanging velvet swags. Two original murals were refurbished alongside the theatre's Loge seats. (A third mural remains hidden under a layer of paint on the ceiling above the orchestra pit!)
Phase III renovations completed in September 2004 gave us the newly dedicated Megan's Suite, an expanded suite with table seating for guests to enjoy refreshments before the show or during intermission. The most recent renovations also include new rest rooms for men and women on the main floor and mezzanine levels, drinking fountains, and an elevator. These projects are restoring The Palace to its original state of old-world beauty with modern day improvements, making it one of the finest theatres of its size and type in the country.
He's Chicago's blues king today, ruling his domain just as his idol and mentor Muddy Waters did before him. Yet there was a time, and not all that long ago, when Buddy Guy couldn't even negotiate a decent record deal....
Modern blues in the '90s had a weird phenomenon of teenage blues guitarists rocketing to popularity with their first album. The entire trend culminated with Jonny Lang, a guitarist from Fargo, ND, who released his solo debut album, Lie to Me, when he was 15....
The Lettermen's close-harmony pop songs with light and easy arrangements made them quite a successful group with adult audiences during the 1960s, when changing styles and tastes made many older listeners feel just a bit left behind in the music world....
As one half of the Judds, Wynonna Judd became one of the most popular and respected female country stars of her time. On her own since the early '90s, Judd demonstrated an eclecticism that increasingly confounded hardcore country fans and radio programmers but also helped her retain a core of admiring followers....
Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes were the second band after Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band to emerge from the New Jersey shore scene, and though they carried over a significant influence (and some key personnel) from their predecessors, they were a more generic white R&B horn band in the Memphis Stax Records tradition....
Although she spent most of her life singing, Lorrie Morgan didn't become a star until the early '90s, when she scored a string of Top Ten country hits. Born Loretta Lynn Morgan, she was the daughter of Grand Ole Opry star George Morgan and made her professional debut at age 13 on the Opry, where her rendition of "Paper Roses" received a standing ovation....
The daughter of country legend Mel Tillis, Pam Tillis made her own way in the music business, eventually becoming a contemporary country star in the '90s. Tillis was born on July 24, 1957, in Plant City, FL, but raised mostly in Nashville and started taking piano lessons at age eight....
Vocal Group Hall Of Famers Kenny Vance & The Planotones have voices of original & inviting dimension. They redefine oldies with vocal authority and freshness as exemplified by their signature song "Looking For An Echo....
The Contours are widely remembered for their 1962 smash "Do You Love Me?," one of the early hits that helped put Motown on the map. Yet they aren't always associated with their contribution to the label; they were one of the roughest, hardest R&B groups Berry Gordy ever signed, and their sound simply didn't resemble the smooth, sophisticated blueprint that later became Motown's trademark....
A charter member of the Supremes, Mary Wilson has long contended that she could have been as popular a singer as Diana Ross, had Motown's Berry Gordy not determined for extra-musical reasons that only Ross was to get star treatment....
