Lake Grapevine

110 Fairway Dr., Grapevine, TX, 76051
(817) 481-4541

About the lake:
One of the more scenic urban lakes, Grapevine lies about 20 miles from downtown Dallas. The 7,380-acre lake is viewed from afar by thousands of travelers a day because it's located under the northern approach path to D/FW International Airport. A good recreational boating lake, Grapevine has the usual Corps of Engineers parks and lakeside facilities.
The six-mile-long lake has plenty of fishing and lush green rolling banks with several sandy beaches and quiet coves for swimming. McPherson's Slough channel, on the south side of the lake, is a good spot to anchor and swim.
Recreational opportunities are endless. There are facilities for camping, boating, picnicking and hunting, plus several trails for nature hikes, biking or horseback riding. Meadowmere Park has a beach area set aside for swimming.
Notable: Though best known as an urban boating lake, Grapevine offers surprisingly good fishing, particularly for largemouth bass.

Hiking and biking Lake Grapevine's Northshore Trail
If you like jogging the hiking trails, you may be interested in this one - very popular among athletes. Check behind you, though; it's also popular with mountain bikers. It's easy to stay out of their way, as there are quite a few trails off-limits to cyclists. Dogs on leash are welcome. Hikers love the shade and incredible views of the lake. It's 9.2 miles long trail head to trail head. About 18.5 round-trip.
The north trailhead is on Twin Coves Road, 1.2 miles west of Simmons Road on Wichita Trail Road. The Twin Coves Marina restaurant is a nice respite after an ambitious hike. The south trailhead is at Rockledge Park on Long Prairie Road off 114 business route AKA - Highway 26, just west of the Grapevine Mills Mall.
The newly expanded Horseshoe Trail at Lake Grapevine is another option for hiking and biking fans.
- LIZA ORCHARD
Equestrian trails are located around the lake. Walnut Grove (southwest portion of the lake near Southlake), Cross Timbers (on the northwestern corner near Highway 377) and Rocky Point (near Flower Mound) are a few of them.
Campgrounds
Silverlake Campground, located in Grapevine on the south side of the lake, has tent and RV campsites, water and electrical hookups, boat ramp, playground, volleyball court, laundry facilities and a dump station. Entry gate is locked from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. It is open year round.
Twin Coves Campground, located on the north shore of the lake near Flower Mound, has tent and RV campsites, water and electrical hookups, boat ramp, playground, volleyball court, and a dump station. No entry is permitted between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. It is closed November through February.
