Peter Chang's China Café

For hard-cord foodies, Peter Chang is a name to get excited about. The award-winning, China-born chef has been called the perfect chef and been stalked by dining enthusiasts all over the southeast as he hopped from Georgia to Tennessee to Northern Virginia to Charlottesville.

Chang is famous for opening the latest and greatest Chinese / Sichuan restaurant in a town, getting the place running and the staff trained, and then disappearing to do it again somewhere else.

And he’s getting ready to do it in Richmond.

Chang’s latest project, Peter Chang's China Café, is set to open in Short Pump (in the former Rainbow Buffet) at the end of February, and like all his other restaurants, he’ll be the one in the kitchen for the first few months, giving Richmonders an opportunity to sample the food from the man himself.

Chang has been working on the Richmond project with his business partner, Gen Lee (also a chef). Lee, who is also an owner of Peter Chang's China Grill in Charlottesville, will manage the front of the house with his wife.

But Peter Chang's China Grill in Short Pump isn’t the end of Chang’s plans in Richmond.

The chef lives midway between Richmond and Charlottesville and is planning two more ventures in RVA – a food cart serving Chinese/Sichuan Street food to open sometime this year and a second restaurant in the Fan or Shockoes down the road.

This town is about to get very interesting for Richmond foodies.
