Humanist Society Potluck and Screening of "Agora"

Tuesday, Oct 9, 2012 7:00p
Civic Media Center Gainesville, FL

“Agora” is a historical drama by Academy Award-winner Alejandro Amenábar. The film is set in Egypt under Roman rule, where violent religious upheaval in the streets of Alexandria spills over into the city’s famous Library. Inside its walls, the astronomer Hypatia (Rachel Weisz) fights to save the wisdom of the Ancient World. Among these disciples is Hypatia’s slave, who is torn between his secret love for her and the freedom he knows can be his if he chooses to join the surge of the Christians.
