Re-enactment of Sansom Crossing Black Creek and John Henry Wisdom's Ride

Thursday, May 2, 2013 11:00a

This walking tour reenactment will cover these coinciding events. On the afternoon of May 2 1863, Streight and 1,700 infantry crossed Black Creek ahead of Forrest and destroyed the local bridge, thus impeding the Confederate pursuit. Forrest rode to a nearby home to find someone knowledgeable about the terrain and came upon 16-year-old Sansom. On that day John Henry Wisdom rode 67 miles from Gadsden, AL, to Rome, GA, to warn the citizens of Col. Streight's proposed march to burn Rome.
