Fresno Clovis Prayer Breakfast

Its purpose is to celebrate the blessings that we have in our communities as well as uphold in prayer our public officials and affirm them as they carry out their duties.
  The Fresno/Clovis Prayer Breakfast had it origins in the mid 1940’s when five business men started meeting on a periodic basis at a Divisadero Street restaurant for prayer and fellowship.  As they met and prayed, the idea of having an annual community prayer breakfast was put forward.   The first event was held in the late 1940’s.… Show more
Over the years, this community event has been held each March or April and has spanned the terms of eleven of Fresno’s mayors.   This year, Ashley Swearingen will be the twelfth Fresno mayor to attend.
During the 1970’s, during the tenure of Mayor Ted C. Wills, the name was changed from the Fresno Community Prayer Breakfast to the Fresno Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast.   And again, in the mid 1990’s, during the term of Mayor Jim Patterson, the name was changed to the Fresno/Clovis Prayer Breakfast when the community of Clovis was invited to participate.
Throughout the years the keynote speakers have been drawn from a wide variety of experiences – pastors, public servants, sports figures, judges, community leaders, and community activists.    The 1998 prayer breakfast had the largest attendance with 2100 attending to hear Coach Bill McCartney.
