Elton John & Billy Joel Face 2 Face Tour 2009

Saturday, July 18 7:30p
at Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, MA
Price: $54.50 - $179.50
Age Suitability: None Specified

Elton and Billy Joel, the most successful and longest-running concert pairing in pop history, will reunite for their Face 2 Face tour beginning in March, 2009.

Elton and Billy open the concerts with a series of duets, playing twin pianos and trading vocals. Each artist then performs a set with his own band. A grand finale brings the two superstars and their supporting musicians back together for a closing encore. This includes some of both Elton and Billy's greatest hits along with an unpredictable selection of rock and roll classics.

"I love touring with Billy. I have the greatest respect for him and we're such good friends," Elton said. And "the great thing about performing with Elton is that he is such a good piano player and that makes me have to dig deep to keep up with him, not to mention I've got the best seat in the house-only one piano away from Elton John!" said Billy.

Although Billy Joel never was a critic's favorite, the pianist emerged as one of the most popular singer/songwriters of the latter half of the '70s. Joel's music consistently demonstrates an affection for Beatlesque hooks and a flair for Tin Pan Alley and Broadway melodies.

In terms of sales and lasting popularity, Elton John was the biggest pop superstar of the early '70s. Initially marketed as a singer/songwriter, John soon revealed he could craft Beatlesque pop and pound out rockers with equal aplomb.

May 20, 2008 - rareexception on Elton John
I haven't seen Elton John in years but

I couldn't stand to see the one terribly negative review here. He is one of the greatest lyricists ever and a superb pop artist. Frankly, he's been the better of the two Disney choices (no offense Phil Collins) and his hits from the 70s are still hot.

It gets better with age

It was always difficult not to hum along back in the day, but I appreciate the unpretentious skill much more now that I am so much cooler than the cool kids ever were.
