The Passage of Memory
Anastasia Gabriel’s recent work is an installation based on childhood memories. The work relates to her father, whose ability to recall is fading. The installation evokes memories of a visit to her paternal grandparents’ home during the monarch butterfly migration. By using repetition of form, she amplifies a bygone moment, portraying it as a colorful abstraction. Impressions of the past are interpreted through the porcelain medium to communicate ideas of tradition, fragility, and permanence.
