Fort Garland Museum

A must stop on your visit to the San Luis Valley in Southern Colorado. This historic museum is the site of Fort Garland, the U.S. Military Fort Once Commanded by
the Legendary Frontiersman, Kit Carson.

The Fort had been preserved and restored in the early 1940's and is now a part of the Colorado Historic Society.

The Barricks, Officer's Quarters, and many other buildings have been preserved and now offer a great walking tour of the grounds. Learn about the Buffalo Soldiers who served there, see how the Adobe buildings were built, using local tradesmen and clay from the creeks and river banks, absorb Colorado's history.
