CSU: Three American One-Act Operas

The 2012-2013 season opera workshop features three one-act operas by American composers: The Old Maid and the Thief (1939), The Telephone (1947) both by Gian Carlo Menotti, and A Hand of Bridge (1959) by Samuel Barber with libretto by Menotti. The Old Maid and the Thief was one of the earliest operas composed specifically for radio and helped further establish Menotti’s career.
