Over the past 16 years, Lord Leebrick has established a reputation for high artistic quality and a commitment to presenting challenging and diverse scripts. Randy Lord and Chris Leebrick set out to create a daring professional theatre engaging the cultural diversity of Lane County when they founded Lord Leebrick Theatre Company in 1992. The company performed in a variety of downtown storefront locations in its first two years. Then, in 1994, the fledgling company secured a lease of a vacant building at 540 Charnelton Street. Overnight, a resident performance space was crafted out of a 70 year old building that originally housed a small dairy operation. Twelve years of work by diligent staff, board, and community volunteers has enabled gradual upgrades to our recycled theatre, including: new bathrooms, new lobby and box office space, an enhanced stage floor, new seating, new heating and air conditioning, improved electrical service, a lighting grid, and enhanced lighting and sound equipment. These improvements enhance the professional quality of this home-grown intimate theatre enabling us to maintain a level of artistic quality that prompted Eugene Weekly readers to vote Lord Leebrick the “Best Live Theatre” in Eugene for eight consecutive years (1996-2004: the category has since been retired because, according to the Weekly’s staff, “it wasn’t competitive”).
