Sex4Geeks
YOU can have the intimate and sexual relationships you want in your life. Don’t be discouraged; DARE to be limitless.... join Monique and Sher in the Sex4Geeks course and experience life and relationships differently. The course is specifically designed for male geeks and female geeks (and those who support them). In Sex4Geeks, we will explore the obstacles that us geeky folk typically experience finding partners for sexual and intimate relationships and how to overcome them. This course… Show more offers mostly experiential exercises rather than lectures and will give you plenty of practice doing something to explore relationships differently than what you are doing that may not be working for you now. There will be homework and extra-credit activities along the way. The more you participate, the more quickly you will begin to experience the results you want.
There are two 5 session courses: Basic and Advanced. The course sessions are scheduled for every other Tuesday, starting February 12, 2013.
A key part of this course is practicing the listening, communication, making requests, and other skills between each session and reporting in during the next one. There will be extra credit suggestions along the way to even further accelerate your progress in relating with others more intimately and feeling more connected. Sex4Geeks Basic Course consists of the following sessions: Who is listening? Tuesday, February 26: 7pm to 9pm. Are you listening? Sometimes geeks forget to listen. Perhaps we get caught up in games of social one-upmanship not so much to show how smart we are but to mask how awkward we feel connecting. Learning to truly listen without needing to fix the other person is the foundation skill for all successful relationships. We will learn how to focus on what the person who is speaking is saying, how to ask interested questions, how to make sure the other person feels heard. We will also practice not giving advice but assisting someone to identify the solutions to their own problems. If what you are doing is not working, try something else. Tuesday, March 5: 7pm to 9pm. Human beings are the only species on the planet that will consistently do something over and over even when it does not work. This applies specifically to intimate relationships. What are you doing now to be able to relate intimately with another person? Is it working? If not, what can you do differently to be successful? (This will be a gender balanced session, with men and women attending.) . Who do you love? Tuesday, March 12: 7pm to 9pm. If you don’t love you, it may be difficult to find someone else to love you. Our judgments about ourselves and not “being good enoughâ€* often keep us from even approaching another person for conversation or connection. In this session we explore all the devious ways we keep ourselves unlovable, basically by not being willing to love ourselves fully. It is amazing what happens when you break down that wall. And yes, loving yourself takes a fair amount of practice, but it is amazing how it can change your life when you do.
What qualities do you value in someone you want to have as a partner in a long term relationship? Tuesday, March 26: 7pm to 9pm. Who have you loved in the past? What did you like and what did you not like about these persons? What are your core values that are important for you to share with a partner? Exercises in identifying what you want in a partner. Also exercises practicing being interested in the whole person when you meet someone new. Respecting Boundaries: How do I recognize my limits and my partner’s limits? Tuesday, April 9: 7pm to 9pm. Exercises in identifying, speaking, and respecting boundaries moment by moment. The “yesâ€* to your request in this moment may change to “noâ€* the next. Or a “noâ€* can turn into a “Yes, please!â€* Am I willing to hear no? Do I take it as a rejection? Exercises include saying and hearing no, responding in a positive accepting manner and making a different request later. How to go with the flow. Cues that your partner may be nearing a boundary and asking/offering to change what you are doing. (This will be a gender balanced session, with men and women attending.)
The cost is $100 for the Basic course, if paid by the start of class on Tuesday, February 26th. The cost of the Advanced course will also be $100, if paid by the date we start the Advanced course on April 23rd. Otherwise, attending individual sessions are $25 each.
