Erie Community Library

The Erie Community Library has been open for one month and what a first month it has been. Our Grand Opening celebration was huge event with 1500 community residents in attendance. The day was filled with activity from start to finish; the staff was busy issuing over 400 library cards, giving tours and getting to know the community members we serve.

The excitement has continued through the entire first month. In the first 19 days of providing library services 2,400 Erie patrons received new library cards and used those cards to check out almost 17,000 items. Erie patrons have also enjoyed the advantages of being part of the High Plains Library District and having access to the collection of 12 individual libraries. Over 1200 items were accessed through the holds system of the High Plains Library District. Computers have also been popular with members of the community.

Although we are celebrating our successes, our work at the Erie Community Library is only beginning. The staff is working on continued improvement in public service through further staff development training. The staff is also working on providing signage throughout the library to help direct patrons to the information they need. New displays are being added for patrons to browse each time they visit the library. Library programs for all ages are beginning. The art task force is in the process of acquiring art work for the library to enhance the atmosphere of the building. And the vending services, including snacks, hot drinks and cold drinks are now fully operational. The library seems to be changing on a daily basis. Come check us out.
