I totally dig the ARTery and what they are doing for this city. I've been to a few very different events there and they have always made the space totally adapted to every vibe. It's so great to have an events space that can cross so many boundaries: a book reading one night and then a killer band the next. Plus the sound is always great in there.
I've seriously seen things there that rival the rockings I have had in Berlin. The ARTery is the coolest thing this city has- right down to it's raw, prairie gothic, shabby chic interior. I loves it

A great venue, nice people.

I saw Wendy McNeill at the ARTery tonight. It was a great show, shs's a wonderful artist, and though I didn't know much about the artist, and had never been to the ARTery, I felt very welcome and right at home. I admire what they are doing, and they are doing a good job with it. Of course, I'm not under the influence of bumps I did in the bathroom, I'm sure THAT would give me a more enlightened perspective

The Artery sucks. They don't pay bands that play there, even when they charge cover. Plus I witnessed the girlfriend of one of the band members being made to pay cover (maybe they were having a fight?)... Then while doing bumps in the toilet I overheard that the owner is a raging bitch, and she's been hassling the artists that live next door. It's supposed to be an arts community, try to involve artists, not hassle them.
