As Government of Alberta buildings, the Northern and Southern Jubilee Auditoria were built to stand as cultural and community institutions in the province. Under the leadership of Premier E.C. Manning, the facilities were created as a gift to Albertans upon the 50th anniversary of the province. In a similar move, Premier Ralph Klein took steps to renovate the buildings in celebration of the provincial centennial. After substantial main theatre renovations throughout 2004–2005, the facilities are ready to serve Alberta’s future generations.
With 36 number one hits under his belt, Charley Pride, who is black, has helped prove how little race matters to the majority of country music fans. It's taken a long time to understand that, though. His first single, "Snakes Crawl at Night," was released without publicity photos, as some in the industry feared listeners would automatically reject a black country singer....
The Tedeschi-Trucks Band -- led by the husband-and-wife duo of guitarist and vocalist Susan Tedeschi and slide guitarist Derek Trucks -- began as a summer touring unit known as the Soul Stew Revival. It was both a practical consideration for the pair to spend time together with their young family and a musical endeavor....
Bass player and vocalist Ronnie Dunn (born Ronnie Gene Dunn) joined Louisiana-born Leon Eric "Kix" Brooks to create the most successful country music duo of the 1990s. Their debut album, Brand New Man, released in 1991, sold more than six million copies, while their first two singles -- "Brand New Man" and "My Next Broken Heart," their first songwriting collaboration, reached the top position on Billboard's country music charts....
Boasting an acute wit, a mane of gray hair and an incredulous smirk that punctuates his political punch lines, Maher has made a career out of ridiculing those in power. He spent the late 1970s and early 1980s honing his comedic skills on the stand-up circuit and his tenacity paid off with supporting film and TV roles, although the projects were often pretty low-rent (D....
Met future Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler in junior high, and the two formed a band called Road Crew. High-school classmates included Lenny Kravitz and future Lone Justice singer Maria McKee. Knew such rock-and-roll luminaries as David Bowie and Joni Mitchell as a child due to his parents: his mom was a costume designer and his dad created album covers....
As lead singer of the Left Banke, Steve Martin was one of the finest upper-register male vocalists in rock history. Of a rather mysterious background (it's been written both that he was Spanish and that he was Puerto Rican), Martin met bassist Tom Finn in New York in the mid-'60s after a Rolling Stones concert....
Of the artists who rose to popularity as part of the new age music boom of the 1980s and '90s, few (if any) enjoyed greater or more lasting success than Yanni. Composing and performing instrumental music with a pronounced sense of drama, dynamics, and romanticism, Yanni broke through to a significantly larger audience than his peers, thanks to adult alternative radio airplay and a commanding performance style that attracted fans through frequent appearances on public television as well as world-wide concert tours....
Jersey Boys aren’t a group or a band, but a Broadway musical that chronicles the story of the Four Seasons, the group that gave the world pop hits like “Rag Doll,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Dawn,” “Silence Is Golden,” “Walk Like a Man,” and so many others....

When k.d. lang released her first major-label album in 1987, she caused considerable controversy within the traditional world of country music. With her vaguely campy approach, androgynous appearance, and edgy, rock-inflected music, very few observers knew what to make of her or her music, although no one questioned her considerable vocal talents....
