La Fille Mal Gardée (The Wayward Daughter) is one of the oldest ballets still regularly performed. It was originally conceived by Jean Dauberval, an important choreographer in the 18th century. Recreated by Alexander Gorsky in Russia, this famous country comedy tells the tale of the love between Lise and Colas, and Lise's efforts to thwart her overly possessive mother's plan to marry her off to a rich, unattractive vineyard owner!
