In 1939 the Rollins families and Leo Allen built this building to house a milk processing plant from which they ran a wholesale and retail milk business. Milk was brought in from area farms, processed and delivered to stores and homes in our milk trucks. Within two years we were making our own homemade ice cream and selling it at the seasonal ice cream stand, a tradition which still lives on. In 1957 we added the grill area, starting with a limited menu and expanding over the years to include seafood, a variety of sandwiches, and our now famous onion rings. In 1963 the milk business was sold to a Portsmouth firm. They moved out of the building in 1965, leaving it vacant until we again expanded our tradition in 1991 to a full service restaurant and lounge. In 1998 the expansion continued with the Loft, a casual, non-smoking pub, upstairs, but a world away. The Allen family is still here today. Leo and Olive retired in the 70's. Now their son, Richard, his wife Diana, and two of their children, Kimberly and Peter, manage the restaurant and ice cream stand. You can usually find one or more of us around. Our goal is to give customers good service and homemade cooking. As a result, practically everything is made right here on the premises, including our soups, muffins, onion rings, roasted turkeys, gravies, Italian sauces, and most of our appetizers and desserts. We hope you enjoy your visit and if you have any comments we would like to hear from you.
