To participate in the hands-on portion of this course, you must bring a laptop (don't forget the power cord!) with Tableau 8 and Microsoft Excel already installed and tested. You can use either production Tableau 8 OR the Beta 6+ version of Tableau 8, which can be obtained in advance of the full release by contacting your sales manager at Tableau. You can test the install by opening one of the included examples from the Tableau 8 Desktop home page, "Sample - World Bank Indicators". When you open this data source, double-click the first data item, "Country/Region". A world map should appear. Click Help -> About Tableau and verify that you are indeed using Tableau 8. Finally, for efficiency, we strongly recommend a wireless mouse instead of your built-in laptop touchpad when using Tableau.
