A special event at Ziggies, presenting two female fronted acts. Live music from 8pm until 1:30 am for only $5 total for both shows! Lara Ruggles Cara Cantarella Band Note The early start time of the music this evening, starting at 8pm. Lara Ruggles, vocals, piano, & guitar is a solo act who has been compared to a cross between Tori Amos and Natalie Merchant. She will perform from 8:00 ~ 9:15. http://www.myspace.com/lararuggles ...from her website, "I wrote my first song when I was 8. It had 3 notes.… Show more It was called "The Real Lara's Theme". Because I didn't like the one from Dr. Zhivago at the time. I grew up fiddling around on the piano and at one point decided I would be a piano, guitar, and flute player. I never learned flute. You can't sing and play flute at the same time, and it turns out I really love to sing. And loud. My biggest dream is to spend most of each day sitting at the piano and writing songs, to embrace the struggle of finding the perfect words and remembering just the way I was hoping the melody would bend before I got up and ate lunch. To stay with it, to keep practicing every single day and make that the most important thing. I'd like to spend my life doing that." Influences: Tori Amos, Natalie Merchant, Bright Eyes, Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Ben Folds, Cat Stevens, Gillian Welch, Bob Dylan, The Judds, Patsy Cline, Buddy Holly...and lots more Sounds Like: "It was recently announced that Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair Tour, which rounded up some of the biggest female musicians of the day a decade ago, is being revived in 2010. While she's not yet big enough to warrant an invitation, Colorado singer-songwriter Lara Ruggles would fit the bill well. Her slightly ethereal songs, backed by her piano- and guitar-playing, fit nicely into the template forged by McLachlan (and Tori Amos, Jewel and the young Joni Mitchell)-and she sings the hell out of them." ~ the Tucson Weekly. Followed by The Cara Cantarella Band ~ 9:30 to 1:30 http://www.caracantarella.com/ http://www.myspace.com/caracantarella Cara Cantarella Band-Live at Ziggies!
