The Denver Turnverein originated as a cultural, exercise and social club composed of first- and second-generation German immigrants whose philosophy was “sound mind within a sound body.” The Turnverein is representative of the large German population that helped settle Colorado from the mid-1800s to the present, and were a strong influence in commercial, social, educational and governmental activities.
