Comedian and actor Eddie Izzard, adored by fans and critics alike for his lightening quick wit and surreal humor is back and starting the largest comedy tour of his career. Izzard’s new one man show fittingly titled Stripped will hit North America this April with performances in 34 cities. Critics have described Izzard as everything from the “funniest man in pretty much all of the known universe,” to “a human search engine,” to “a surrealist maestro of historical and scientific trivia,” and “a one-man Monty Python crew.” Izzard won acclaim in the U.S. with his first one man show, Dress to Kill, which debuted on HBO and won two Emmy Awards. His last record breaking tour, Sexie, sold-out 15 cities, including a week at New York's City Center, and a week at The Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles. In between tours, Izzard has earned rave reviews for his acting talent seen on television in the hit FX series, The Riches, on the big screen in Steven Soderbergh’s Oceans 13, and on Broadway where he starred in the acclaimed revival of A Day in the Deal of Joe Egg. Izard received a Tony nomination for "Best Leading Actor in a Play" for his performance.

As someone who has come to LOVE Eddie's work via Netflix DVDs, BBC America and YouTube I couldn't wait to finally see him live. However, I walked away last night a bit underwhelmed. The acoustics at DAR Constitution Hall lost several of his punchlines (to the point even one guy yelled out could you hold the mic closer the acoustics suck!).
That wasn't Eddie's fault but I did feel he didn't bring his A game last night. I felt like some of his material was just recycled from previous shows. They were just slightly altered. I was expecting a show of completely new material.
With that said I would still pay to see him again. I laughed quite a bit when I could hear (bad venue) and enjoy his take on things. I wouldn't say my feelings of underwhelmedness (is that a word) was due to Eddie but more the venue and sound system. Eddie is one of my favorites and I loved seeing the crowd embrace him and give him standing ovations when he came in and when he left.

Honestly, I've been a little disappointed with Eddie Izzard since "Dress to Kill". That still ranks as probably the best stand up act I've ever seen, but his work since then hasn't been nearly as good.
