Light Defines: New Oil Paintings by Suzanne M. Packer
Light defines what we see and how we feel. It creates moods. It changes colors. Painting is about shapes, objects, marks, and how they relate on canvas. We talk about negative space, the space between objects. The shapes make the composition, but different types of light define it. Think of the same view on a foggy day or when the sun shines harshly, the same view in morning or evening.
Colors set the mood, but light brings colors up or tones colors down. The viewer responds to what is revealed.
