Introduction To Japanese Writing Through Calligraphy

Students will be introduced to basic Japanese Calligraphy and will practice writing selected phrases in three Japanese writing systems: hiragana, katakana and kanji. During each session, students will work on words from a list prepared by the instructor and based on each student's skills level as well as the theme of the month. Students new to both Japanese language and calligraphy are welcome to participate in the class the first day of each series.
Materials: Big brush*, small brush*, liquid ink*, ink pot (tray)*, paper*, paperweight*, paper mat (newspaper or from a craft store). *Available in the Museum Store
