Faculty Development: Faculty Mini-Retreat For Goodness’ Sake: Challenges, Changes and Opportunities at BCD Tuesday, November 20, 2012 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon Room 605Â
This mini - retreat will address the challenges  of teaching in a diverse environment; describe changes  in both the continuing education process and the Faculty Code of Conduct document; and identify opportunities for improvement in teaching.  A major focus of the retreat will include cultural competency training. The successful… Show more delivery of meaningful, acceptable, accessible and effective oral health care to all patients requires a deeper understanding of each patient’s frame of reference. This becomes more important as the ethnic minority populations within the United States are increasing in size. The Commission on Dental Accreditation recognizes the role of cultural competence in health care and refers to it as having the ability to provide care to patients with diverse backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors, including tailoring delivery to meet patients’ social, cultural, and linguistic needs. Likewise, culturally competent student-faculty interactions are an important aspect of teaching effectiveness. All faculty, clinical and basic science, are asked to register and  attend. Clinical faculty will be awarded two (2) hours of CE for participation in the cultural competency presentation.Â
