Gochi Japanese Fusion Tapas
5:30-9:30 p.m. Saturdays
Gochi is AMAZING. The tapas are perfectly portioned and delicious.
The food reminded me of those mom n pop pubs in Japan! Everything tasted wonderful!
I heard the Caesar salad is good here, but I didn't try it because why would I go to a Japanese place to eat Caesar salad?? That's crazy talk!
Instead I tried...
a ceviche starter w/ homemade potato chips - the ceviche was nice and tangy and the chips were thick and had a good crunch to them!
chicken curry fusion thin crust pizza - the curry was a little overwhelming and my cheese fell off of my pizza. Not that exciting.
yaki onigiri with salmon on top - delicious! the ornigiri triangle rice was crispy and with a little hint of soy sauce. cooked salmon was placed on top of the it. comfort food but still healthy!
black cod rice (from the specials of the day list) was like a fried rice mixed in a stone pot so there were crispy burnt rice in the mix as well. This was absolutely delicious and definitely reminded me of home cooking!
sashimi moriawase - from the starter menu but great to fill up one person. there were two pieces of all sorts of sashimi and seaweed. Everything was extremely fresh! The sashimi octopus was not rubber like but instead fresh and soft. This dish was my to die for moment. It's hard to find great sashimi that is so authentic too!
Overall the food was superb. The dessert menu was a little lacking though. Being a tapas place I was expecting them to have a variety of desserts as well, but the only interesting items on the list were green tea creme brulee and black sesame ice cream.
I'd love to go back for more fusion tapas and a taste of home cooking! Although, it gets a bit pricey at $7+ per tapas platter.
This place is my favorite restaurant in Northern California! It has the BEST Japanese tapas...izakaya style dining! Their unagi-rice bowl is super tasty and their fish is tender and fresh! Make sure you call early for a reservation because this place books up very quick! I would recommend at least 2 days beforehand --but it is totally worth it!
