Fundamentals of Acting: Act II Scene Study

Tuesdays from 7:00 - 10:00pm, January 15 - March 5, 2013

Take the next step in the study and performance of scenes and monologues, with tools for creating precise, focused, relaxed and playful relationships on stage. First, through monologue work, students revisit key basics: objectives, text analysis, listening, relaxed awareness and focus. Next, through scene work with partners, they apply these tools, with the primary focus on cultivating the ability to openly and honestly listen and respond.… Show more Students will present one monologue and two scenes. Using in-class exercises they will also hone such skills as concentration, body awareness, emotional freedom and specificity, actions, play, giving, heightening emotional connection, self-awareness, self-confidence, commitment, comfort, confusion, fear, character physicalization, stage fright, memorization and storytelling. If this sounds like a lot, it is! In Fundamentals II, we work, we laugh, and we learn a great deal. Prerequisite: at least one semester of actor training.

Instructor: Diana Burbano
Diana Burbano has been a working actress since the age of 12. She was born in Colombia and came to this country as a young child. Acting gave her the ability to communicate in her new language, while fostering a love for the power of language. She studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, the Professional Actors Conservatory and the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain. She has been in or directed many theatre productions, and has been seen locally at South Coast Repertory and the Laguna Playhouse. She acts in both English and Spanish, has been on TV, and in film, produces, writes and teaches, while being a literary agent for her husband and raising a three-year-old boy. Her passions are Shakespeare, Chekov and punk rock.
