With its magnificent views of San Diego Bay and the gleaming downtown skyline, Peohe's is an enjoyable place to spend a sunny day or sunset evening. Polynesian decor, island-influenced cuisine and an on-vacation feel have made this Coronado restaurant a popular tourist and local destination for more than a decade.
Bamboo flooring brightens the entryway, which opens onto an intimate sushi bar and sprawling dining room. Silk birds of paradise, lazy straw-blade fans and faux lava-rock touches accentuate the get-away-from-it-all vibe. Butter-yellow wraparound booths -- raised at different levels -- and tables on the breezy outdoor patio are certainly the most coveted seating to enjoy sights of Navy ships and sailboats afloat in the bay. (You can dock your own vessel right outside.)
Island entrees range from dessert-like Halibut Mai'a, sautéed with macadamia nuts, bananas and Frangelico sauce, to crab-stuffed tilapia, a mild fish served with a caper-butter sauce.
