If you have diabetes, know someone who does, or just want to learn more, come to our free support group. Emphasis will be on diabetes in those over age 50, but anyone is welcome.

ABOUT DIABETES

The Bad News:
10.9 million, or 26.9%… Show more of all people age 65 and over, have diabetes. Diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States. It is the leading cause of kidney failure, non- traumatic lower limb amputations, and new cases of blindness. Diabetes is also a major cause of heart disease & stroke and contributes to high blood pressure.

The Good News:
There are feasible and cost-effective lifestyle interventions, such as changes in diet, losing weight and increasing physical activity, that can delay or even prevent the development of type 2 diabetes by as much as 70% among adults aged 60 years or older.
