Order at the kitchen window, and while you wait for them to call your name, order a drink at the bar, then take a seat. This Old Colorado City institution has a DIY set up for ordering and pickup, but the pay-off — quality grilled fare, buffalo wings and pizza at reasonable prices — is worth it.

Muffins is a kind of living museum, full of movie memorabilia, animal mounts, old saddles, horse carts and all manner of zany artifacts. For the moving pictures crowd, various TVs and video games await your attention, and the dance floor is ready to take whatever stomping you can dish out.

The menu, as you might suspect for a saloon, is sandwichand burger-heavy, but surprises abound. Salads, for instance, are represented rather well for a bar. Grey Poupon mustard adorns each table. You can substitute veggie patties for any of the burgers.

As eclectic as this place is, the dudes who do the burger flipping somehow fit right in. They are the real deal: Never pretentious, they lay it out like it is, broadcasting the size of your tip or your physical attributes to the whole crowd. It’s a hoot, so turn your sensitivity meter down and enjoy people having a little fun at your expense.
