About Art on the Streets
Begun in 1999, this annual outdoor exhibition has brought 192 works of art to downtown Colorado Springs. Each year, artists from around the world compete for acceptance into the show, and a star juror may choose up to 12 pieces. The art is installed throughout downtown for a year.
One or more artworks are frequently purchased from the annual exhibit; some privately, others as an extension of the program. On permanent display are previous Art on the Streets favorites such as the gigantic sunflowers along South Cascade, mischievous Humpty Dumpty in front of the Pikes Peak Center and Bella and the Bug in Acacia Park. The current 2012 exhibit can be viewed at http://www.downtown80903.com/library/Art_on_the_Street/12AOTS.web.pdf.
